Singapore Job Market 2024: High Demand for Skilled PMET Talent as Digital Roles Surge. Professionals, Managers, Executives, and Technicians (PMETs) continue to dominate Singapore’s job market, with 57.7% of vacancies in 2024 catering to high-skilled talent, according to the latest Ministry of Manpower (MOM) annual job vacancies report. The figure marks a slight increase from 57.2% in 2023, reflecting sustained demand for skilled workers amid economic expansion.

Tech and Digital Roles Drive Hiring

The report highlights a surge in demand for IT professionals, particularly software developers, web/multimedia specialists, and computer network experts, fueled by rapid digital transformation across industries.

While the proportion of newly created jobs dipped slightly (45.7% in 2024 vs. 47.3% in 2023), sectors like information & communications, financial services, and professional services continued to generate fresh opportunities. In contrast, retail and F&B saw fewer new openings, signaling a shift toward high-value roles.

Improved Job Matching Efficiency

Ang Boon Heng, Director of MOM’s Manpower Research & Statistics Department, noted better alignment between job seekers and employers, with hard-to-fill vacancies dropping to 19.4% in 2024—down from 23.5% in 2023 and 41.4% in 2014.

“While some may feel job hunting remains challenging, our data shows improved matching efficiency, especially in high-skilled sectors,” said Ang.

Key Takeaways for Job Seekers

  • PMET roles dominate, with tech jobs in high demand.
  • New positions lean toward skilled sectors, while traditional roles slow.
  • Job matching improves, but niche skills remain critical.
