Musinsa and SM Entertainment Join Forces to Fuse K-Pop with K-Fashion: South Korean fashion platform Musinsa and entertainment giant SM Entertainment have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a new fashion business leveraging the intellectual property (IP) of K-pop artists.
The agreement, signed on September 14 at SM Entertainment’s headquarters in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, aims to bring together K-pop artist IP, Korean fashion brands and Musinsa’s commerce and distribution platform.
The partnership will see Musinsa’s partner brands collaborate with SM artists to develop and launch fashion products incorporating artist IP. Official merchandise from SM artists will also be distributed through the Musinsa platform.
The companies plan to sell collaborative products and related merchandise through Musinsa’s online and offline channels, supported by integrated marketing initiatives.
Expanding K-Pop and K-Fashion Globally
A major component of the partnership is international expansion. Musinsa and SM Entertainment intend to conduct joint marketing campaigns in overseas markets where both companies are building their presence.
The collaboration could provide Musinsa partner brands with greater international visibility by connecting them with SM artists who have large global fanbases. The strategy is designed to create a new intersection between K-pop fandom and K-fashion commerce.
The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Choi Jae-young, Chief Commerce Officer of Musinsa, and Tak Young-jun, co-CEO of SM Entertainment.
From Marketing Campaigns to Broader Partnership
The two companies already have a history of working together. In July and August, they jointly conducted online and offline marketing campaigns around album releases by Hearts2Hearts and NCT 127, including Lemon Tang and Blingy.
The new MOU takes that relationship beyond individual promotional campaigns and establishes a broader framework for cooperation across their respective businesses.
Tak Young-jun said the companies would pursue comprehensive collaboration covering areas including pop-up stores, content, albums and media, describing the partnership as an opportunity to provide fans in South Korea and around the world with new experiences involving SM’s intellectual property.
Musinsa CCO Choi Jae-young said the combination of SM’s artist IP, Musinsa’s platform and distribution capabilities, and K-fashion brands could create new business opportunities and introduce fans to new forms of products and content.
Fashion Meets the Fan Economy
For Musinsa, the partnership represents an expansion beyond traditional fashion commerce into the rapidly developing artist-IP and fan economy. By incorporating entertainment properties into fashion products and merchandise, the platform can create additional points of engagement with K-pop audiences.
For SM Entertainment, the agreement offers an avenue to extend the value of its artist intellectual property beyond music and live performances into fashion and lifestyle products.
The companies are expected to finalize specific collaborative product launch schedules and overseas marketing plans in stages.
The partnership reflects the increasingly interconnected nature of South Korea’s entertainment and fashion industries, with K-pop’s global fanbase providing a powerful platform for Korean fashion brands seeking international growth.
