Launches Pilot Cross-Border Taxi Booking Service Between Singapore and Malaysia: Grab has received the first Cross-Border Ride-Hail Service Operator Licence (CRSOL) under the enhanced Cross-Border Taxi Scheme jointly introduced by the transport ministries of Singapore and Malaysia.

The licence allows Grab to provide cross-border taxi booking services through its mobile application. The company will initially pilot a service called Cross-Border SG-JB (Beta), enabling passengers to book journeys between locations in Singapore and selected areas in Malaysia, including Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai, and Senai.

The pilot service began rolling out gradually from May 4, 2026. Passengers can make advance bookings through the Grab app between 12 hours and seven days before travel.
According to Grab, the service aims to improve travel convenience across the Singapore-Malaysia land border, one of the busiest international border crossings globally. The company stated that the pilot would be refined over time based on operational feedback from passengers and drivers.
Alex Hungate, President and Chief Operating Officer of Grab, said there has been increasing demand for additional cross-border transport options among commuters and businesses in both countries.
The service includes fixed upfront fares, vehicle options ranging from standard to premium models, and existing in-app safety features such as trip monitoring and emergency assistance. Grab also stated that passengers would be covered by insurance applicable to cross-border trips.
Singapore and Malaysia are expected to issue 300 cross-border taxi licences each during 2026 as part of the expanded scheme. Grab said it is onboarding licensed drivers from both GrabCab and other taxi operators to support the rollout.
Under the current regulations, Singapore-licensed cross-border taxis may pick up passengers anywhere in Singapore and drop them within the approved Malaysian operating areas. However, return pickups from Malaysia are restricted to designated locations including Toppen Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey Mall, Angsana Mall, and Larkin Sentral Terminal.
Similarly, Malaysia-licensed cross-border taxis can pick up passengers within approved Malaysian zones and drop them anywhere in Singapore, while return pickups from Singapore are limited to designated locations near VivoCity, Century Square Shopping Mall, Joo Koon MRT station, and Ban San Street Terminal.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by both governments to improve cross-border transportation connectivity and integrate digital mobility services between Singapore and Malaysia.
